Iroquois Steeplechase 2014 was held on May 10. I was honored to cover the event again this year as press. It is one of the most fashionable events of the year held in the Nashville area, so of course I love to be on hand to witness it. Since May is known for random thunderstorms here in Tennessee, bad weather was forecasted for the entire week. Up until the very morning, thunderstorms loomed as the possible weather for the day. Much to our luck, the rain and thunderstorms managed to move North of the beautiful track keeping all guests completely dry. It didn’t stop the humidity though! I for one would rather be dry and hot as opposed to being drenched, so the sunlight was a welcomed sight.
A few changes were made to this year’s steeplechase. The chairs and committees made every effort this year to make the race day even more entertaining for the children. They added a play area with bounce houses and had I think one of the best turnouts for the stick horse race. All proceeds from the event benefit the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
